Train Station scene

This was hard to film as we were at the train station in the middle of the day, so there was a lot of public just waiting for the trains. so they kept walking in front of the camera. we also only had about half an hour to film this as they wanted to chuck us out. so we had to think up the ideas quite quickly. we brought suitcases so that made it look like we were really going on holiday, which made it more effective.

Dance scene

We had only 10 mins to film this scene, as we had to quickly get it done inbetween dance classes that were on that day. We had to tell them what we wanted them to do, we had decided that we wanted them to look serious and wanetd them not to laugh when we come along and stick a stamp on their head. the contrast worked really well.

Postbox scene

We re shot this scene for our final cut, as in our rough cut we were not in time with the music and we also wanted us to look happier when we pop out from the sides. For our final we decided to jump out from the postbox one at a time, this made the scene look more fun. we think this is one of our best scenes.

Bens Feedback

Today we had a visit from Ben a music video editor and director from London. He has helped bands such as Dogs Die in Hot Cars and Keane. He looked through are video and he got a clear indication of what we are trying to achieve ( a group getting ready and going on holiday. He pointed out that there is not a great build up to the end of the song. Also that some of our choerography was out of time (the post box scene). He gave us some ideas to have more cheeky behavoir pranks and gags in the video. Also to speed up some of the scenes to fit with the tempo of the music. We now are going into detail on key scenes we need to refilm and how we ae going to go about it. We have only one day of filming in the half term to get what we need so this feedback was really usefull to get organised for the day of filming.

Next step...

-Over half term we are going to film the postman section again, we are going to get an adult to play the postman because it will be more believable.
-Also we are going to film the post box section again, we are going to have more movement from behind the postbox. make sure the camera is in the center.
-When editing we need to make the live performance look brighter.
-Take a picture of the five of us on holiday, to post through the letterbox at the end of the music video.
-Need to film a couple kissing on a bench, the break them up and stick a stamp on there head.
-Get the boys to have a kick around then Harriet and Natalie run of the middle of the game and stick a stamp on a player.
-When editing we need to put some transitions in.

Feedback

These are the main views people gave from our class, after seeing our rough cut:

Positive:
-Awesome!!
-Like the bit with the post box
-Nice editing throughout especially at the start
-good use of different locations
-Shots suited the song
-Really liked the train shots
-Was funny
-Good ending
-like the postbox sections

Negatives:
-some guitar playing not in sync
-the Spain letter doesn't come into time with the lyrics
-James and dean, meant to be one person
-cant really tell they were stamps being stuck on peoples faces, maybe needs a close up
-'Spain' writing looks a bit weird

This is our rough cut (enjoy)

Today we finished our roughcut for the music video. Its starting to really take shape though still needs perfecting. We need to go back to some of the locations we filmed and film bits and peices again. This will be mainly getting the choreography in time a looking in sequence. We also may go back and film the postman scenes again. We will also add a few special effects especially with the transitions between one scene to another. For example a flash when harriet takes a picture in front of the camera.

Everyone has editing problems

Today we found that the soundtrack was out of time with the lip syncing throughout the second half of the video. We ended up having to go through every single scene and changing it to fit with the song. This was extremley frustrating as the video was finally coming together ready for the roughcut. Hopefully we will be able to sort it by the end of the day.

postman/suitcase scene

This afternoon, we filmed the sequence where the postman delivers the postcard through the letterbox. We got Dean to dress up as a postman and filmed him from an upstairs window posting letters to another house and then walking towards our house as if to deliver the letters. We then filmed a close up of him actually pushing the leaflets and the Spain postcard through the letterbox. We also filmed the same bit again but without posting a postcard through because at the end of our video, we don't receive any other postcards meaning that the video has finished.

Also today, we filmed the suitcase packing scene again using a different bag and doing more fun stuff which goes a lot better with the cheery upbeat rhythm of the song.

Tup Pub

Today we went to the Green Man pub in Thriplow. We filmed the last of us placeing stamps onto peoples heads. Here we filmed a local punter ordering a pint then to have the suprise of two of us coming in and stamping him. We had a small problem with turning the camera as the camera was too heavy on one side. Though we managed to get the footage we needed after two takes. The staff at the Green Man were extremeley helpful.

Cellar Bar 8

well today we filmed our live performance at cellar bar 8. we couldnt get any drums down there so we just had me and natalie on guitars and tom and james singing with mics.

we did lots of different angles and we each did a performance on our own so we have some close ups. we decided to use the disco flashing lights, but this didnt really show up on the camera. it was quite dark down there so sometimes the camera went a bit blurry and wouldnt always focus, so we made sure we had lots of footage to chose from.

Animatic

Hi there - you need to right up the feedback

Media task

camera:
Good close ups of the guitar and the boy sitting on the bench. when it was silent at the beginning, the panning shots worked well because they had chosen a good setting the to film in.

editing:
Using black and white was very effective throughout it created a gloomy atmosphere which fitted in with the sound of the music. The transitions worked really well, they all fitted in with the speed of the music.

setting:
the water feature right at the beginning worked really well and it made the setting look more interesting instead of just being at christ piece. also by having it in black and white made the bench and field look more interesting.

performance:
i think his performane was really good, i liked that he kept a straight face throughout which showed us how serious the song was. it also looked like he was really playing the guitar which makes the singing and the video more belivible.

genre conventions:

Filming

First day : We went to the train station and the cycle bridge. On the Cycle bridge, we stuck some "homemade" signs on the side, then we filmed ourselves walking past them carrying our suitcases and messing around. After we left the Cylcle Bridge we headed to the trainstation. When we got there, we got some footage of us waiting for the train, getting on the train and also looking very bored when the train is delayed.

Second Day: We had a right laugh in soham, we filmed a sequence involving us popping out from behind a postbox in a sequence that will be in time with the ' Ba Ba Ba' part of the song.

Another thing we filmed was sticking a stamp on an office workers head. We used Lewis as the office worker , and while he was typing, Harriet and Selvy came in and stuck a stamp on his head and generaly acting like onions.
We also filmed a sequence that had us all packing our suitcases so that we could edit it so it is a double splitscreen
thingy.

Storyboard timeline

0.0 - 0.30 - We are going to have a postman coming up to a house from a bird'seye view filmed from an upstairs window. We will then film each other waiting for the post to come and finally a close up shot of the post coming through the letterbox.

0.30 -0.45 - Someone picks up a postcard of Spain and flips it over to view a moving image of someone packing a suitcase in their room. We then zoom into this image. We use split screening to show the four of us packing. It will be like a mirror image of each other but obviously of differnt people in different rooms. We will need to make sure we get the distances away from the camera the same and where we stand in relation to the suitcase. We are going to keep flicking back to see live performance of the band playing.

0.45 - 1.00 - (chorus fast paced) We are going to run around sticking stamps on people in different locations. We are going to edit between each location so it can flick in and out of different ones. Places are: dance class, office, park, pub, football game, trampoline, gym (weights)

1.00 - 1.14 - We will keep popping out from behind a red postbox in canon with the music...the boys can also do some miming here. Live performance shots also.

1.14 - 1.30 - Walk over cycle bridge near station with suitcases one after the other looking at signs pointing to the different countries we're going to. Close up of signs then camera looks up to lead into the next section.

1.30 - 2.00 - chorus...sticking stamps again. escalator going up and down with boys on it miming.

2.00 - end - walking across zebra crossing with suitcases and getting on the train. At the end we will have a shot of a postcard of the band on holiday coming through the letterbox. last shot us looking through the post box and the post man walk past without giving us any letters, then last shot of the door and zoom into our eyes looking through the letter box.

Natasha Bedingfield

this video also has the idea of having moving images in an object thar normally has a stationary image.

The transitions and video content go well with the lyrics

Black eyed peas - where is the love?

In this video they go around sticking stickers everywhere which is like what we want to do with stamps.

The streets - Fit but don't you know it

This video has the idea of close up of photos which once you have zoomed in you see them moving. We like this idea and think we could use it in our video with postcards of differnt countries we could then flip the postcard over and have moving images of us in different locations sticking stamps tp people. this would be a good link together for each idea.

rubbish song but has countries in it and a good idea for flags

Ideas

We have a lot of brilliant ideas at the moment

- Live performance, with different instruments ( Guitar, Acoustic Drums). James thinks he can get us a slot at cellar bar 8 for it or his friend's studio!!

- Sticking stamps on people in different places- dance class, football game, pub, office, wedding , park(couple kissing), Media teacher meeting(angry) all dressed up as stereotypical country people eg chopsticks in hair and bright colours for japan

-Photos of different places-close up then become real with us walking in character

- Main singer stands in middle of green screen wall. Background roadsigns and hes spinning around looking at where he can go.

- suitcase opens and stuff falls on floor, different stuff from different countries

- Airport, Luggage collection belt, suitcases with different country labels on the suitcases

- different things from different places going along the checkout in supermarket.

- Postcard idea: either a postcard from that country or a piece of card then flip it over and on the other side a group in a moving image then zoom into the card and end up in that location with us sticking stamps on someones head
the ones with out a postcard, we will write the name of the country on a plain piece of card.

This is the band's original video for the song , we think its pony and we can do it a lot better!!!!!

Yes thats right , we said it

The song we have chosen is 'Collection of Stamps' by I'm from Barcelona

These are the lyrics

Collection Of Stamps lyrics,

"I've got one from Spain
and two from Japan
I've got a couple from Israel and Azerbadjan
I've got a plenty from Poland but none from Sudan
or from Fiji or Uzbekistan

You know I can't believe I'm telling everyone that I know
That every stamp in my collection is a place we could go!

And I've got one from Chad
and two from Nepal
I've got a couple from India and Benin as well
I've got a plenty from Poland but none from Sudan
or from Fiji or Uzbekistan

You know I can't believe I'm telling everyone that I know
That every stamp in my collection is a place we could go!
You know I can't believe I'm telling everyone that I know
That every stamp in my collection is a place we could go!

It´s OK, It´s alright, pack your bags, let´s leave tonight"
